Giving Tuesday began in 2012 as a simple concept encouraging people to do good following the American Thanksgiving weekend. Following consumer holidays like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a day dedicated to global generosity, supporting charities and causes to do good around the world.

Here at NKDB, the foundation of our work, namely, the publishing of our data on North Korean human rights violations through our annual publications like the White Paper on North Korean Human Rights and the Social and Economic Integration of North Korean Defectors in South Korea is supported purely through donations from the public. We believe that the annual publication of this data is critical for bringing attention to the reality of the human rights issues facing those inside North Korea and North Koreans outside the country. NKDB’s research has been cited by governments and organizations around the world, demonstrating the critical nature of the published data.

In addition to our documentation work, your donations enable provision of much needed support to the numerous returned prisoners of war and abductees, victims of torture and human trafficking, and other unprotected North Korean escapees who require assistance as they resettle into South Korean society.

To date, NKDB has relied on donations to record over 84,000 cases of human rights violations and data on over 54,000 people involved in those cases,  as well as provide critical resettlement support to North Korean escapees living in South Korea. This Giving Tuesday, we ask for your help to continue our mission to record the voices of the North Korean people! No matter how little, with your support, NKDB can continue to carry out our work of data collection, resettlement assistance for North Korean escapees, and educational programs advocating improved human rights for the North Korean people!

Donate today, and help to strengthen the voices of the North Korean people!
