On February 3, 2024, NKDB welcomed distinguished guests from the U.S. and Japan, including the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) President and CEO Mr. Damon Wilson and former United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Management Mr. Yukio Takasu.

Visiting Seoul to attend the fourth convening of the Sunnylands Initiative – a network to advance a vision for cooperation on strengthening democratic governance in the Indo-Pacific region, the guests were greeted by Chairman Lee Jai-chun and Secretary-General Lee Hyun-il of the Committee for the Establishment of a North Korean Human Rights Museum.

They received a tour of the Museum’s inaugural exhibition, #TheEchoNeverStops. The visitors displayed a particular interest in ‘What We Need to Tell Them, What They Need to Know,’ one of the digital exhibits on the Larchiveum of North Korean Human Rights, covering the inflow of external information into North Korea.

The tour was followed by a session where the officials could speak directly with the North Korean escapees. The conversation allowed the guests to enhance their understanding of the North Korean regime and society and to contemplate measures the international community could take to improve the human rights situation in North Korea.

NKDB would like to express our gratitude to all attendees, including President Damon Wilson and Ambassador Takasu, for listening to the voices of North Koreans. We are also grateful to the National Endowment for Democracy for its continued support in promoting human rights and democracy in North Korea.
