[Briefing]41st NKDB Monthly Briefing and Discussion

On June 27th, NKDB held its 41st Monthly Briefing and Discussion on North Korean Human Rights where a presentation was given by guest speaker Dr. Patricia Goedde, associate professor at Sungkyunkwan University, School of Law, in which she discussed North Korean human rights issues from the perspective of international law. Dr. Goedde gave a brief history of human rights and presented in more detail some particular challenges in the International Human Rights Law (IHRL) sphere. Consequently she explored the ways in which different IHRL principles and mechanisms apply to the case of North Korea.

 

Participants of the briefing included representatives from embassies in Seoul including Spain, Italy, Norway, Australia, France, the US, and Germany, as well as from international organizations including the UNHCR, the Friedrich-Naumann Foundation and from international media outlets such as the Wall Street Journal.
