From October 23 to 24, NKDB's Resettlement Assistance Headquarters held the 2025 Autumn Healing Camp with support from the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture (UNVFVT). The camp brought together beneficiaries of our psychosocial counseling services, helping their recovery from trauma associated with sexual violence, torture, detention, and other human rights abuses endured while in North Korea. Participants of the camp found a moment of healing and restoration through immersion in the natural scenery of Ganghwa Island.

Day 1: Exploring Nature
On the first day, participants experienced a scenic course from Hwagae Garden to the Jeojeon Observatory Café and Skywalk. As participants walked and enjoyed the view, they shared their stories with one another, reducing tension and anxiety in the process.

Day 2: Interpersonal Bonding & Group Solidarity
On the second day, participants visited Yakseokwon and Armiae World, taking part in small-group activities designed to foster emotional connection. Surrounded by a peaceful and supportive atmosphere, participants discovered strength in healing together.

A Warm Break Through UNVFVT Support
This healing camp was part of a UNVFVT-supported program designed to facilitate the psychological recovery of victims of torture and violence. Participants expressed deep gratitude, sharing feedback such as, “It’s been so long since I could truly open up,” and “This was such a comforting time.” Through mutual support, they built a sense of connection and hope.
