On Tuesday, October 25th, NKDB held its annual conference to share the results of the 2022 Social and Economic Integration of North Korean Defectors in South Korea survey.
This survey, conducted jointly by NKDB and NK Social Research (NKSR) since 2005, collects and analyzes data collected through interviews with North Korean escapees who have resettled in South Korea. Data collected includes figures on areas such as employment and job sector, reasons for lack of economic participation, and even data on remittances back to family in North Korea. The social aspects of the survey include questions regarding North Korean escapees sense of belonging in South Korean society, thoughts on emigrating to a different country, and expectations of success in South Korea.
The full report (available only in Korean) detailing these results and more is coming soon!
