From October 11 to 12, NKDB’s Resettlement Support Division in partnership with the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture (UNFVT) visited the Jarasum Flower Festival in Gapyeong together with individuals who experienced torture in North Korea.
Every year, NKDB organizes a healing camp during the most pleasant season to help participants find psychological and emotional stability through cultural experiences and group counseling and to strengthen their motivation for a new beginning in South Korea society.
On the first day in Gapyeong, participants took time to regain vitality by walking among the brightly blooming flowers and riding the rail bikes, feeling the refreshing autumn breeze. On the second day, they also spent enjoyable time together through animal-assisted activities.
This year’s camp also included a special “Safe Zone Practice” session led by NKDB’s psychological counseling researchers, helping participants develop practical techniques for grounding themselves and cultivating emotional safety.
