On July 16 2025, we celebrated the opening of NKDB’s Exhibition Hall at our new office! Titled “Echo Never Stops 2,” the exhibition now features a larger space, new media, and more interactive experiences.
The inauguration event started with a beautiful performance by musicians from DOD (Draw of Dream), an NGO that supports and collaborates with North Korean artists. We were honored to hear remarks from special guests: Jai Chun Lee (Chairman of the Steering Committee to Establish a North Korean Human Rights Museum), James Heenan (Representative of the UN OHCHR Seoul Office), Professor Shin wha Lee (former Ambassador of North Korean human rights), and Young Ho Tae (former National Assembly member). Hanna Song, NKDB's Executive Director Director, closed the program with words of thanks and a reminder to keep listening to the echoes of North Korean voices.
The museum now features a media installation titled <Darkness Has Gravity> created by the group “SaWe,” built around testimonies from North Korean escapees. Right next to it is another media on the theme of freedom, sharing more personal stories from the escapees.
With MOU signed with DOD, the museum will now host rotating exhibitions of artworks by North Korean artists every six months. The current exhibition features vibrant paintings by Chung-guk An and comics that send messages of hope by Hyo-jin Jeon.
Visiting hours: MON - FRI 10:00 - 18:00
Address: NKDB North Korean Human Rights Exhibition Hall B1, 393, Samil-daero, Jongno-gu, Seoul
Contact number: 02 723 6045
