We were honored to welcome the commissioners of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) to NKDB to discuss the critical issue of religious freedom in North Korea.

Stephen Schneck, Chair of USCIRF, and Eric Ueland, Vice Chair of USCIRF, toured NKDB’s museum and had the opportunity to speak with a recent escapee about the harsh persecution of religious individuals in the DPRK.

USCIRF, an independent and bipartisan U.S. federal government agency, is dedicated to monitoring the universal right to freedom of religion or belief (FoRB) worldwide. They provide policy recommendations to the President, Secretary of State, and Congress, ensuring these crucial issues are addressed. North Korea has been designated as a “country of particular concern” (CPC) by the State Department since 2001 due to its severe and ongoing violations of religious freedom.
