On May 22, Julie Turner, who serves as the U.S. Ambassador for the Special Envoy for North Korean Human Rights Issues, visited NKDB’s museum “The Echo Never Stops,” where she received a special tour and held her interview with the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) on the U.S. engagement with North Korean human rights issues.
Special Envoy Turner is visiting South Korea from May 21 to May 25, with a particular focus on the issue of POWs and access to media in North Korea. Along with visiting NKDB’s museum, Special Envoy Turner attended the Asian Leadership Conference and a series of meetings to correspond with South Korean government officials, civil society actors, and North Korean escapees.
At NKDB’s museum, Special Envoy Turner was able to explore restrictions on the freedom of expression and access to media in North Korea. It was a pleasure for NKDB to speak with Special Envoy Turner and welcome her to the museum for her KBS interview.
