The workshop centered on memory reconstruction and memorialization and emphasized the role of civil society in demanding truth, justice and historical accountability for victims of past violence. It also highlighted the importance of archives, oral testimonies and memory spaces in shaping historical narratives and resisting state-imposed impunity.

Representing NKDB, Hanna Song shared NKDB’s unique experience documenting more than 70 years of human rights violations in North Korea. She highlighted the organization’s efforts to build and protect the largest database of North Korean human rights violations and how the organization uses both legal and psychological approaches to support survivors.

This event reaffirmed NKDB’s continued engagement in global dialogues on transitional justice, and its commitment to ensuring that the stories of North Korean victims are remembered, protected, and heard.
