On January 15, 2025, NKDB took part in the first-ever World Conference on Enforced Disappearances (WCED), held in Geneva, Switzerland. The event was co-hosted by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) along with four other UN bodies and brought together hundreds of participants from over 120 countries to address the ongoing global issue of enforced disappearances.

Hayeong Kim, a psychological counselor from NKDB’s Resettlement Assistance Headquarters, attended the event to share NKDB’s perspective on North Korean human rights violations. She was able to share about cases of enforced disappearance, human trafficking, and torture experienced by North Korean victims. Above all, she highlighted the importance of victim-centered advocacy and the need for long-term support and redress.

Although the 2006 UN Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance has been ratified by 77 countries, the issue remains unresolved in many parts of the world. NKDB continues to speak up for North Korean victims and remains committed to promoting international solidarity, accountability, and justice.
