On May 28th, NKDB held its 49th Monthly Briefing and Discussion on North Korean Human Rights hosting former Chief of Mission of the Republic of Korea to China and New Zealand, Ambassador Shin Jeung-seung. Amb. Shin, who is the current director of the Center for Chinese Studies at Dongseo University, shared his analysis and insight on China. He spoke about China’s peaceful rise seen also as a threat as well as his perspective on the priorities and challenges of Chinese foreign policy concerning the US, the DPRK, and South Korea which sparked an engaging Q&A session with this session’s participants.
The participants of the Briefing comprised representatives from foreign delegations in Seoul, including those from the embassies of Hungary, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Australia, Italy, Singapore, Finland, and the United States. International organizations and media outlets such as the National Democratic Institute and NK News were also in attendance.
