The journey to freedom should not lead to further exploitation. For many North Korean escapee women, crossing the border is just the beginning of systemic vulnerability. On June 17, NKDB is partnering with Deakin University in Melbourne to host a critical forum: Human Trafficking: The North Korean Experience. We are bringing together frontline practitioners, policymakers, and human rights advocates to examine practical, cross-border strategies for prevention and survivor support across the Indo-Pacific.
Supported by the Australia-Korea Foundation, this event will present our latest data-driven research on the transnational exploitation of North Korean migrant women. Drawing on in-depth interviews with 30 survivors and a rigorous analysis of trafficking cases prosecuted in Chinese courts, we will shed light on the realities of forced marriages and human trafficking.
