On January 22, Hanna Song was appointed as the next executive director of the Database Center for North Korean Human Rights. Song, previously the Director of International Cooperation and a researcher at the organization, takes on the position following Dr. Yeosang Yoon, the former chief director, and founder of NKDB.
In her inaugural speech, Song said, "I’m honored and humbled to take on this role. It was not an easy decision to make, but while I hold this position, all I can promise is to ensure that NKDB can continue to effectively communicate the voices of the North Korean people to the international community.”
Song holds a bachelor's degree from University College Utrecht in the Netherlands and a master's degree in International Human Rights Law from the University of Oxford. She has been with NKDB since 2015 and manages the organization’s international cooperation activities. Song has been cited in major international media outlets, including the BBC, The Economist, the Financial Times, and The New York Times. As a researcher, she has authored a number of research reports related to the Universal Periodic Review, the SDGs, and human rights in the North Korean military.
