Looking into North Korea's political prison camps-

In North Korea's political prison camps, detained prisoners and those born into the camps are denied the right to live their lives as North Korean citizens. They are people who have been deprived from even the most fundamental human needs and are used as tools of labour, unaware of when they will be simply thrown away.
They live out their remaining days, detained in a political prison camp carrying out forced labour, enduring inhumane treatment while their lives fade away from the memory of the outside world.

Remembering these people and shedding light onto their stories, the Database Center for North Korean Human Rights has published the book 'North Korean Political Prison Camps: A Catalogue of Political Prison Camp Staff, Detainees, and Victims of Enforced Disappearance'.

This catalogue has a record of 51 political prison camp staff members, 579 detainees or presumed detainees, 137 deaths or persons who have experience detention and 499 victims of enforced disappearances.

The Database Center for North Korean Human Rights not only records human rights violations that happen on a daily basis but also conducts extensive research on the human rights violations that occur in detention facilities such as prisons and political prison camps in order to create awareness and improve human rights conditions.

'North Korean Political Prison Camps: A Catalogue of Political Prison Camp Staff, Detainees, and Victims of Enforced Disappearance' will also be available in English, Japanese and Spanish.
