What role do you think the ROK-U.S.
alliance plays in the unification of Korea?

Last Monday (September 26), Tai-sik Lee, former South Korean ambassador to the U.S., gave a lecture on โThe ROK-U.S. Alliance and Unification Diplomacy.โ Mr. Lee spoke about the historical background in establishing the ROK-U.S. alliance as well as its implications for Korean unification. Mr. Lee also shared his personal stories that he experienced while serving as a South Korean ambassador to the U.S. during the Bush administration.ย

He emphasized that the South Korean government should take an active role in making strategies for Korean unification rather than simply relying on the ROK-U.S. alliance and consistently push them forward in order to get support, cooperation and agreement from surrounding countries.ย

Due to the national holiday, we will skip lecture next week (Oct. 3). On October 10 (Mon), Gyu Hyeong Lee, former South Korean ambassador to China, will deliver a lecture on โThe Role and Tasks of China for Unification Diplomacy.โย
