On July 18th the Database Center for North Korean Human Rights (NKDB) hosted a seminar in which their research on North Korea's implementation of its UPR recommendations were presented. The seminar was held at the Korea Press Center with diplomats, NGO workers, students and many others in attendance.
The seminar started with a welcoming remark from Lee Jai-chun, Chairman of NKDB and was followed by a congratulatory remark from Ahn Byeong-hun, the chairman of the UniKorea Foundation. An inspiring keynote address was then delivered by the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the DPRK.



Next, Lee Na-kyeong, a researcher at NKDB gave a presentation on the 'Issues Surrounding the UPR Recommendations for the DPRK'; followed by a presentation by Hanna Song who spoke about the 'UPR Recommendations and the International Community and Recommendations for the 2019 UPR.'

The presentations were followed by a testimony from a North Korean defector who lived had been a participant in NKDB's research and lived in North Korea during the period under review. After, a discussion was held with Signe Poulsen from the UN Seoul Office, Oh Joon former ROK Ambassador to the UN, Ahn Myeong-chul from NK Watch and Baek Buhm-Suk from Kyung-hee University. The panel discussion was held on the issue at hand and was moderated by Choi Sun-young, head of research projects at NKDB.

The seminar ended with some questions from the audience and answers from the panellists. NKDB would like to extend their gratitude to all those who attended and participated n our seminar and of course to the UniKorea Foundation who sponsored the research project and seminar.
