On February 16th, NKDB's Director of International Cooperation, Hanna Song, spoke to NK News about the difficult situation faced by overseas North Korean laborers who are unable to return to their homeland due to North Korea's border closures.
“North Korea has essentially abandoned these workers,” Hanna Song of the Seoul-based Database Center for North Korean Human Rights told NK News. “But at the same time, North Korea expects them to still send money back.”
“Working with barely any pay, unable to return home and without insurance, these workers literally put their lives at risk,” Song said.
